A family visit last weekend found us at Al’s Steakhouse on Elgin St.
I have been meaning to go there for the last year or so and finally booked a date with a couple of ravenous meatatarians (yes I used that word).
Okay so its old school, a place my Dad would appreciate. It’s steak. The dining room while quite loud, is also quite lovely. A little on the dark side, one’s eyes soon adjust.
Our party of four started with a sharing plate of calamari, a very generous serving of tender squid and seafood sauce. We also all ordered the rib-eye and were not disappointed. The steak was cooked to perfection. Tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef served with your choice of potato and a garden salad with garlicky house dressing (apparently famous, it’s good). Our bottle of Rosemount Estates Shiraz was the perfect pairing.
My suggestion is to order the baked potato, trust me on this.
The service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and accommodating, she knew her stuff. It’s pricey, no question about it. Will I go back? Yes, and next time take Dad.
