Fuel

This is what most mornings look like (except Sunday) in The Lemon Kitchen:

Oatmeal, blueberries and maple syrup. It’s the fuel to help get us through our day.

My oatmeal purist friends cringe, cause this is the oatmeal of the packaged kind. The little paper pouches that come out of the box. Yes, I prepare my oatmeal microwave style.

Don’t knock it. If done properly it is right on, delicious and convenient. It takes time to get it to the perfect creamy consistency, but it can be done.

Empty the package into the bowl. Add 1/4 cup and 2 tbsp. of water and stir, making sure everything is mixed well. Heat in microwave for 1 minute, 10 seconds (no longer, this is critical). Add 1/4 cup of milk and stir well. Depending on how creamy you like it have another 1/4 cup of milk waiting, add and stir. If neccesary heat for 12 more seconds (or you can heat your milk). Add 1/4 cup of blueberries and top with 1 tbsp of maple syrup. Another nice addition is a tablespoon of flax seed.

There you have it. Try it, trust me
